Chris, an Oscar-shortlisted filmmaker, works across commercial, documentary, narrative, and feature film projects through his company, Alchemist Productions. While Wellington remains home, international feature work sees him divide his time between New Zealand and Texas.
With a sharp eye for story and a hands-on approach behind the camera, he brings together creative direction and technical craft—often working across producing, cinematography, and editing. In the past fifteen years, his films have premiered at Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Toronto, SXSW, Tribeca, SBIFF, and Berlinale festivals.
Recently, Chris produced Marfa Lights (starring James Urbaniak, Steve Earle, Eric Balfour) in West Texas and is in post-production on a feature documentary, Phoenix Rising, about a New Zealand women's pro soccer team. Two of his feature films won the Audience Award at Austin Film Festival (in 2021 and 2022).
Outside of work, Chris can usually be found backpacking or building custom campervans with his wife, daughter, and pup. Together, they explore the hidden corners of the natural world, often taking the circuitous path.
